Hotels and accommodations on the island

Torcello’s famous Locanda Cipriani | ID 229124483 @ Markzhu | Dreamstime.com
Actually, Torcello does not offer many choices precisely because it is a very small and almost entirely uninhabited island.
However, there is a magical and historic place, a symbol of class and hospitality: we are talking about Locanda Cipriani!
Just think that this inn was founded in 1936 by Giuseppe Cipriani who fell in love with the island during a boat ride and decided to buy the only tavern open in Torcello.
The man already had experience having founded Harry’s Bar and wanted to create something magical for such an enchanting island.
Today, as in the early post-war years, it is possible to indulge in a unique night in an evocative atmosphere: silence, nature, peace.
Locanda Cipriani offers rooms equipped with comfort and right above the famous restaurant attached to the structure.
Alternatively, you can stay at the Junior Suites Venezia, a very elegant and sophisticated property with rooms that overlook the canal itself.
Rooms located above Villa ‘600 and right in front of Locanda Cipriani: another quality choice for unparalleled nights!
Alternatives in the surrounding area: sleeping in Burano or Mazzorbo
Do you wish to visit Torcello, to sleep among the waters of the lagoon but you are not attracted to the idea of the total silence of Torcello?
No problem! You could choose an island nearby, perhaps offering something more in the evening as well.
Although the watchword is always peace and quiet, Burano or Mazzorbo also offer you the possibility of sleeping in the lagoon and offer a few more amenities than Torcello.
Below is a list of facilities that might be right for you:
- Venissa Wine Resort: beautiful property located in Mazzorbo, it offers an experience closer to what you might experience in Torcello: peace, serenity and silence. Every comfort for you, including breakfast, kitchenette and air conditioning. A price from 230 euros, but it is worth it considering the unique experience you will be able to live.
- Tiffany Home: located in Via Cao Moleca, 140, right in the center of Burano! You’ll be able to sleep in one of those colorful little houses typical of Burano: a unique price for the average, as it starts from about 90 euros per night (price for two people). Placed right on the canal, it is a house suitable for more needs, considering its 72 square meters and the presence of two rooms.
- Eye on the Lagoon: the name already says it all! Splendid view of the lagoon that gives a truly evocative atmosphere. If you choose this property, you will stay at Calle Boccaletto, 938, on the northern side of the island. An entire apartment for only 180 euros per night (for two people) and for you every comfort including the beautiful balcony with a view!

Practical tips for an overnight stay in Torcello

Cathedral of Santa Fosca in Torcello | ID 44401017 @ Martin Hatch | Dreamstime.com
If you wish to stay overnight in Torcello, it is good to be clear about a few things: for example, that you are choosing a special and intimate experience.
On the island, in fact, there are no pubs, discos or other such attractions, no nightlife: at night the island plunges into total silence and even the light falls.
During the week, moreover, many places close in the evening and do not offer the possibility of dining, so choose well the day on which to stay and organize accordingly with everything you need.
Finally, since you only have two facilities available, I recommend booking in advance to reserve a room and not run into any nasty surprises.
Sleeping in Torcello is an incredible experience that seems almost anachronistic: pull the brake and enjoy a day of authentic, peaceful living!
Frequently asked questions
There are many attractions in tiny Torcello: you can admire the Devil’s Bridge, Attila’s Throne, Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, Church of Santa Fosca, Baptistery of St. John the Evangelist, Locanda Cipriani, the Provincial Museum of Torcello, and the Andrich House Museum.
The price varies depending on the services required and the beauty of the room chosen. In any case, the cost ranges from a minimum of about 650€ to a maximum of almost 1600€ for extra luxury rooms.
Torcello is very small, and visiting it can take as little as a couple of hours. In addition, all the attractions are mostly concentrated along the main street that runs along the Canal Maggiore.
There are only seven 7-star hotels in the world, and two of them are in Italy: one in Milan, the Town House Galleria, located in the heart of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on the piano nobile, just a stone’s throw from the Duomo. The second, however, is in Venice and is the Aman Canal Grande, located inside the splendid 16th-century Palazzo Papadopoli and named after the famous canal it overlooks.
